Sony confirmed that it would not be attending Gamescom this year

no PlayStation-related announcements would be made during Geoff Keighley's Opening Night Live webcast in a statement to the German publication Games Wirtschaft.

Gamescom, the most popular video gaming convention in the world for a long time, switched to a streaming-based convention in 2019.

This year sees the return of a somewhat physical expo, although it appears that many of the major game businesses are skipping the chance.

While Microsoft's participation is still up in the air, it is appearing less and less likely given the company's constrained first-party lineup for 2022.

Nintendo, Take-Two, and Activision Blizzard have already declared that they won't attend the event.

highlighting its newest collaborations and future first-party games on its own time

the news that Sony will not be attending Gamescom is not altogether surprising.
