Citroen’s parent company Stellantis reported that a limited run of 50 tiny electric cars sold out in less than 18 minutes, leading the French company to pose a challenge to Elon Musk.

He wrote Citröen on a billboard at Paris’ Gare de L’Est railway station, “Sorry Elon, the only way to obtain one is to buy us,” in reference to the Tesla CEO’s thirst for business, which recently included a $44 billion bid for Twitter.

Nio, a Chinese manufacturer of electric vehicles, intends to create its own battery by 2024.

Citröen has sold 22,000 units of the compact electric Ami since it went on sale in April 2020 in Morocco, Europe, and Turkey. The automobile is exclusively offered online and does not require a driver’s licence.

The canvas canopy and metal tube grilles are used in place of the standard doors in the limited edition “My Ami Buggy,” which costs 9,790 euros.

According to the manufacturer, “the fastest buyer was able to complete the entire buying journey and obtain their ‘My Ami Buggy’ in just 2 minutes and 53 seconds.”
